Boooooo....!

Hey there!  Have you seen the new Detailed Gate Thinlits from SU!?  Oh my!!  They are absolutely stunning!!  You talk about detailed!!  Wow-ee wow wow!  I spent some time playing with them this morning and I am super impressed!  I think their original intention was to set the stage for a creepy Halloween scene (which it is perfect for!!), But I can see using them for so many more things!  Wedding, garden, new home, sympathy...lots of possibilities!  Today though I went the spooky, creepy route and am tickled with the results!  Would you like to see my scary creation?

I love Halloween, so this little guy was a lot of fun to create!

I cut out the gate and then cut it in half down the middle so that it would open. I roughed up all of the edges of the card base pieces to give it that tattered look.

The measurements for my card pieces are:

Base (Basic Black):  4 1/2" x 5 1/2" (single piece...no fold)
Pumpkin Pie: 4 1/4" x 5 1/4"
Whisper White: 4 1/4" x 8 1/2"
(Scored at 1 3/4" and 6 3/4" and each folded inward.)

It opens up twice!  The gates swing open from the center and then the white layer opens revealing the spooooooooky scene on the inside!

Here it is completely open. I fussy cut all of the pumpkins from the Spooky Night DSP and punched the kitty from the paper too. The sentiment is from Spooky Cat and the cool bats are from the Sweet Home set.

I masked my moon (see below!) and sponged in both my grass and sky.

It is free standing so it can be displayed.

View from the front.

Ok, let's talk about this die!  It has oodles of teensy intricate bits and pieces!  I used the regular platform and plastic plates plus a single shim (made from 1 piece of scrap card stock). I rolled all of that through my Big Shot and then backed it up and repeated 3 times!  That is 6 passes through the Big Shot.  May seem like a lot, but the pieces poked right out easily for me!  I used my pokey tool to pop them out.

It is a beautiful die cut!  Very detailed and intricate.

This is what it looks like as one piece with all of the designs poked out.  To turn it into two gates simply cut straight in half top to bottom.  I used scissors rather than my paper trimmer so it wouldn't bend or damage the delicate edges.

After I cut it I added Tear and Stick tape to the edges and scored each piece so they would bend and open.

To make my moon I punched a 1 3/8" Circle from a piece of card stock.

I used the negative piece (shown here) and sponged Crushed Curry into the circle on my card base.

To get my night sky I used the punched out circle and covered my moon with it and sponged Marina Mist over and around it.

This is the finished result.

I sponged my grass in with Old Olive not worrying at all about making it even.  I think it gives it more depth and that it makes the grass look like it goes way back behind the whole scene this way.

Then I added in the cat and all of those fun pumpkins.  Looks like a haunted Pumpkin Patch to me!

Here are all of the goodies that I used to make my card today:
