Christmas is in how many days...?!
My kids used to counts down the days to big events by counting 'how many sleeps' were left! They have started the Christmas countdown and so I thought it would be fun to make an advent calendar! We have never made one of these! I loved the tutorial on SplitCoast, but wasn't interested in paying that much for the tins to make it, so as per usual...we got creative! We used heart shaped baking tins ($1.00 for 24!), posterboard ($.47), wrapping paper ($2.00) tissue paper ($.97) some store bought stickers and bling ($3.00), candy ($3.00) and scrounged up the rest of the supplies from things we already had laying around the house! I wrapped all of the candy this morning before the kids woke up so that when it is their turn to open for the day it will be a surprise! I have four kids and they will get to take turns breaking the tissue paper and getting the candy! Youngest to oldest! I used the SU! spiral punch to stamp the numbers and we put them on the inside and the outside so that the numbers will still be visible after the tissue is broken! This was a fun project and the kids really enjoyed it!

I love this Advent calendar. And I love that all the kids are involved - that's what makes it fun.
ReplyDeleteVery cute!! I'm sure this will do a lot to help your kids sleep as Christmas nears (yeah, right!).
ReplyDeleteAnnMarie,
ReplyDeleteHow creative is this? Your kids must love it. How fun to have a little something every day before Christmas!
Oh, what a wonderful idea! Great job!
ReplyDeleteNice to meet you to Sisterhood2!
Oooh what a cute idea that advent calendar is, I soooo don't have the time to make one of these this year, but perhaps next year, maybe!!!! lol

Thanks for the welcome to SBS2. You have some great projects on this blog! Looking forward to getting to seeing more.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like you and your children had a lot of fun making your advent calendar. I had seen the SCS version but thought that the cost of the tins would be prohibitive--your substitution makes a lot more "cents" to me. I have to head down to my basement today and find my calendar. I lucked out at an after Christmas sale last year and purchased a Jim Shore advent. Can you believe it is the first of December?

Super clever. This is really cool!
ReplyDeleteLove how your resourcefulness turned this into something that improves on the original idea so very much! Mel
ReplyDeleteGreat job in coming up with your own version of the countdown calendar. It looks great!
