Friend like you and explosion box tutorial!

Hello there!  I posted a fun little project yesterday called an explosion box and oh my goodness have I ever gotten an overwhelming response asking for more info!  In an attempt to answer everyone's questions, today's post has a tutorial with lots of info so that you can make one too!!  Yay!!  They are super, duper simple and are one of those projects that always gets a big WOW!  Here is a link to the post that started all of the chatter.......click me!  And here is another one that I made today, so I could share the tut:

This one uses Granny Apple Green as the box base and the layers are Blushing Bride and Whisper White.  I added lots fun stuff to the top too!

The top has 3 hand made flowers, a bunch of sweet foliage punched from the leaf and sprig punches and one of those beautiful butterflies from the Butterfly Botanical DSP.  I simply punched it out and added it on with a dimensional.

My sentiment is from the Love What You Do stamp set and I cut it out using the Layering Circles Framelits.  I added another smaller butterfly from the same pretty DSP using the Butterfly Duet punch.

This is what it looks like open!  Once you lift the lid the sides fall outward revealing a fun surprise in the center!

I made this little butterfly guarded box for the middle.  The butterflies help to keep the goodies in place.

Here are the how to's:

Start with a piece of card stock measuring 8" x 8"

Next score it at 2 3/4" and then at 5 1/4"

Flip it sideways and repeat that step creating a tic tac toe shape.

Next following your score lines cut out all four corners.

Fold upward on your score lines.

Ok, let's make a lid!  Cut a piece of card stock measuring 3 1/2" x 3 1/2".

Score it at 1/2" on all four sides.

Next cut into the score marks until they meet the score line on both sides and flip to the opposite side and do the same. (4 little cuts)

Next trim the tab edges at an angle on all four sides.

Repeat for the smaller center box.  Start with a piece of card stock measuring 2 3/4" x 2 3/4".

Score at 1/2" on all four sides.

Cut into it on both ends and on both sides (as above).

Fold in and glue your tabs creating a box shape. You should have two now; one smaller than the other.

Let's decorate the inside!  I used 2 layers. First layer measures 2 1/4" x 2 1/2".  You will need 4.  If you want a second layer, they will measure 2" x 2 1/4".  You will need 4.  The center piece measures 2 1/4" x 2 1/4".  You will need 1. The final piece fits inside of the smaller inner box and measures 1 1/2" x 1 1/2".  You will need 1.

Adhere all of the pieces to the inside. Once they are all down glue the inner (smaller) box in place.

I did some stamping at this point!  You can stamp, decorate or leave plain!  Totally up to you!  You are the artist!

Moving on to the outside!!  You will need 4   2 1/4" x 2 1/2" pieces for the bases and 4   2" x 2 1/4" pieces for the tops.   I embossed mine, but you can leave yours plain or stamp them.

Adhere into place.

Lid:
For the lid you will need a 2 1/4" x 2 1/4" for the base piece and 2" x 2" for it's top.

Adhere pieces on.

Fold up your sides and add your lid!  Your project should be coming together now!

I made those fun flowers by punching a large circle and cutting it into a spiral shape.  I simply rolled them up, crunched them up a bit and hot glued them onto a 3/4" circle.

I punched 4 butterflies from the Butterfly Botanical DSP using the Butterfly Duet punch and glued them to the outside of my inner box.

One per side!

Then I added some goodies to the center!  Yum!!

They stay in place nicely with the butterflies watching over them!

Here is the finished project one more time!

These little guys make great gifts and really do go together very quickly!

Here are all of the goodies that I used to create my project today:

I would love to see what you come up with too!  This tut and post have taken me all day, so I  am off to squeeze in a walk before it becomes too frigid outside!! Have a wonderful day! I will be back soonest with lots more to share!
